The joint hypermobility syndrome, otherwise referred to as ‘loose joints’ and people affected by it as ‘double-jointed’, is a condition describing joints moving freely beyond the normal range of motion expected for the specific joints. This, although not exclusively, tends to affect younger people, as the joint mobility naturally decreases with age. Although it’s considered benign, it can lead to joint pain and in long term-arthritis. Due to the excessive movement capability, people with hypermobile joints are more susceptible to injuries and joint dislocations. Isometric-dominant, progressive strength training performed at the correct intensity, improves the strength of the muscles surrounding your joints, further stabilising them and preventing their dislocation and the pain experienced with it.
