- Get someone who’s obviously knowledgeable and has a proven track of that knowledge, but also someone that you get on with and what I mean by that is the character of the person. Why is that important? Very often we see a trainer who has the knowledge but is just not able to communicate in a way the client responds to. Some people prefer a strict routine whereas some people need gentle advice and coaching. Make sure you find out what works for you and communicate that with your trainer from the very first session.
- Find someone who has a holistic approach to weight loss. There’s so much more that goes into weight loss than how much you work out in a day. You want to make sure that the trainer looks at your current situation and takes all your obstacles into account when building your plan and plans your program.
- Try to avoid anyone who’s trying to sell you magic teas or pills or anything that is meant to get you to lose five stone in three weeks. It’s unrealistic and it’s potentially dangerous. You want to make sure that you don’t get a pre-written plan with some magic tips that should work for everyone. You’re an individual with your own needs and own lifestyle and these things need to be taken into account whilst building the approach and building the program for your weight loss.
- Find someone who can be there for you outside the hour of your session. Very often, especially at the very beginning of a weight loss program, you’ll have a lot of questions and there’s a lot of things that can go wrong in between the sessions. You should have an allocated time in between your sessions that you can catch up on your progress and also answer any of the questions that may have occurred during the day.
